Our Shunt Trip Testing Process
Schedule & Coordinate
We schedule the test outside business hours when possible and coordinate with your fire suppression vendor.
Pre-Test Inspection
We verify breaker, control wiring, and fuel/gas valve solenoid integrity before initiating the test.
Trip Test & Verification
We initiate the shunt trip, confirm all loads de-energize, and verify automatic gas/fuel shutoff functions correctly.
Document & Submit
We deliver a signed test report for your compliance file and, when needed, submit directly to the local fire marshal.
Compliance, Documented
Common
questions.
Why is shunt trip testing required? +
NFPA 96 and local AHJs require annual verification that fire suppression systems will de-energize cooking equipment and shut off fuel during a fire event. Failed testing can result in citations, insurance issues, and shutdown of the cooking line.
How long does the test take? +
Most commercial kitchen shunt trip tests take 30 to 60 minutes, scheduled outside cooking hours so the kitchen is not disrupted.
Do you coordinate with our fire suppression company? +
Yes. We coordinate directly with your Ansul or fire-system service vendor so the test is witnessed and recorded as part of the system maintenance file.
Will you submit the report to the fire marshal? +
If your jurisdiction requires direct submittal, we handle it. Otherwise, we deliver the signed report to you for your compliance binder.
What if the test fails? +
If the shunt trip does not function correctly, we identify the cause (breaker, control wiring, solenoid, or interlock) and quote the repair so you can return to compliance quickly.
